Mr. Lund graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2007 with a Bachelors of Science in Fire Protection Engineering & Safety Technology and in 2012 from Drake University with a Masters of Public Administration. Mr. Lund became the first Fire Protection Engineer for the City of Des Moines Fire Department in January of 2008 and was promoted to Fire Marshal in June of 2013.
Mr. Lund augmented his academic accomplishments by completing the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program as well as the State of Iowa's Certified Public Manager Program. He is currently a Licensed Professional Engineer (Fire Protection) in the State of Iowa, Graduate Safety Practitioner, ICC Certified Fire Plans Examiner, and has earned Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Firefighter II and EMT-B certifications.
In addition to his work with the Des Moines Fire Department, Mr. Lund has previously worked on Norwalk Fire Department (IA),Madison (WI) and North Shore (WI) fire departments. He has extensive experience in fire protection system, site, architectural, and performance based design reviews.
He is the past president of Hawkeye State Fire Safety Association and the current President of the Iowa Fire Marshals Association. Mr. Lund represents the Missouri Valley Division of the International Association of Fire Chief's on the Midwest Regional Workgroup for the International Fire Code. He serves on the validation committee for IFSTA's Fire Detection and Suppression Systems manual and is a committee member on the Capital Crossroad's project on the fire code management.
Mr. Lund's passion is the fire service, more specifically: making sure firefighters understand the fire protection systems that exist in their environment and that those systems are designed, installed, and perform as they are intended, when they are needed. Mr. Lund has presented on numerous topics related to his passion and has had research papers published on pressure regulating devices, company fire inspection programs, as well as school fire drills. His desire is to see fire prevention become a priority in the American fire service and works with a number of fire departments in Iowa to ensure this happens.
